Sobering Figures of Animals Suffering in the Hands of Humanity

Shocking figures based on USDA data uncover the most voluminous cruelty on the planet: animals raised for food. What is worse, of the 10,153,000,000 land animals systematically killed across the country last year, 875,000,000 of these animals died lingering deaths from disease, injury, starvation, suffocation, maceration, or other atrocities of animal farming and transport. How much suffering is humanity causing in God’s Creation solely for the sake of taste and profit! The figures of animals being systematically and legally abused (and killed) are sobering. Aren’t Christians supposed to be the “salt and light” of the world? Then, we should step up to our position of caretakers of God’s animals and do our job, which calls for compassion, kindness and justice. Of course, there is no room to support the factory farming industry in taking care of God’s farmed animals.

This Week’s Video: HSUS Undercover Investigation at Pig Facility

An undercover investigation of two of the nation's top pork suppliers (owned by Seaboard Foods and the other by Prestage Farms), including a Walmart supplier, revealed egregious acts of cruelty to pigs. From intensive confinement in gestation crates to ripped genitals, the video shows the unimaginable suffering these animals undergo. This Week’s Famous Quote
"If a group of beings from another planet were to land on Earth -- beings who considered themselves as superior to you as you feel yourself to be to other animals -- would you concede them the rights over you that you assume over other animals?"  ~ George Bernard Shaw, playwright, Nobel Prize 1925

Mac Donalds moves from gestation crates (one step further from human and animal liberation but too slow on people’s awakening behalf)

There's nothing manly about eating meat on Vimeo

"In their behavior toward creatures, all men are Nazis. Human beings see oppression vividly when they're the victims. Otherwise they victimize blindly and without a thought."    ~ Isaac Bashevis Singer, author, Nobel Prize 1978

Lent Season Is Here, Go Meat-Free!

The season of Lent begins today and many Christians around the world will choose to make some sacrifice during the next 40 days in remembrance of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. Giving up meat might be the best sacrifice people can make, as some religious leaders have suggested. The Bishop of Oxford, the Rt. Rev. John Pritchard, the Bishop of Monmouth and the Bishop of Chelmsford, the Rt. Rev. Stephen Cottrell, are a few among many that declare that eating meat is an spiritual issue, that it robs animals from God-given gifts, and that it is unsustainable. Adopting a plant-based diet might be indeed the best, most profound choice that a person can ever make! What better way to honor our benevolent Creator than to stop hurting and killing the sentient beings He/She lovingly put on Earth? Transitioning to a plant-based diet is not a sacrifice but an enjoyable, fulfilling, loving and compassionate lifestyle.

The animal advocacy group Compassion Over Killing
http://www.cok.net/   released last week another undercover investigation
at a gestation crate factory farm in Iowa. Keep in mind that Iowa is one of the states where an “ag-gag” bill was introduced in order to prevent consumers at large from learning about the inherent cruelty of factory farming. Please share.

Firs In-Vitro Hamburger to be Produced this Year

Dutch scientists have announced that the first hamburger made of cow’s stem cells will be produced this year. Scientists believe that in-vitro meat will eventually replace the meat from farmed animals, and therefore alleviate suffering and also mitigate some of the problems that animal agriculture causes on the environment. Please visit http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/02/19/first-test-tube-hamburger-to-be-produced-this-year/
We have been blessed with a vast variety of healthy and tasty plant-based foods and protein from animal sources is rarely necessary for humans. In-vitro meat is going to be an expensive endeavor if it’s available to most people; however, it could mean the end of the brutal, systematic, legalized abuse of God’s farmed animals and to the devastation of Creation.

Dairy Industry’s Latest Desperate Tactic
Because more people are choosing alternatives to cow’s milk, not just vegans and vegetarians, the dairy industry is attempting to discredit milk alternatives in ways that are not only surprising but deceiving. The dairy industry’s latest campaign, “Real Milk Comes from Cows” (tagline: “many imitations, still no equal”), features soy, almond, hazelnut and coconut milks and makes reference to their taste, color and texture using adjectives such as spooky and funky.

Fortunately, most people are not going to fall for these desperate attempts to discourage buyers into trying delicious, compassionate and healthy milk alternatives. But just in case, this article helps set the record straight: http://grist.org/food/big-dairys-latest-smear-tactic/
